Freetown, Sierra Leone — A one-day workshop focused on research methodology and the study of journalism, conducted by Dr. Sarah Bomkapre Koroma, concluded successfully yesterday at the YMCA in Freetown. The workshop, which saw participation from a cross-section of Field Researchers of the WJS Study, aimed to enhance the research capabilities of participants and to deepen their understanding of the complexities of journalism studies. The participants came from Bo, Kenema, Makeni, Freetown and more to share and get to immerse themselves in the survey questionnaires and getting to learn new insights on researching journalism in Sierra Leone.
Dr. Koroma, a renowned scholar in the field of media studies, spearheaded the workshop with a series of comprehensive sessions designed to equip attendees with the necessary tools and knowledge to conduct robust journalism research. Her expertise and engaging teaching style were highly appreciated by the participants, who found the workshop both informative and inspiring.
The workshop covered a range of topics including qualitative and quantitative research methods, data collection techniques, ethical considerations in journalism research, and the use of digital tools for data analysis. Dr. Koroma also provided hands-on training sessions, allowing participants to practice the skills they were learning in real-time scenarios.
One of the highlights of the workshop was a collaborative exercise where participants worked in groups to design and propose research projects relevant to the Sierra Leonean media landscape. These exercises fostered a sense of community and collaboration among the attendees, who shared insights and received feedback on their proposals.
The workshop concluded with a Q&A session where participants could address their specific queries and concerns. As the workshop came to a close, participants expressed their gratitude and eagerness to apply the knowledge gained.
Dr. Koroma concluded by thanking the participants for their active engagement and encouraging them to pursue excellence in their journalistic endeavors. She expressed appreciation for the hard work of the coordinators Alhaji Bangura, Emmanuel Nyakeh Momoh and Pst. Jonathan Thorpe who led the participants through the sessions.
